An iconic vehicle of coffee culture, the “macchinetta” (more commonly known at the Moka Pot) can be found in virtually every Italian home, and beyond. This stove-top tool was designed by  Luigi De Ponti in 1933 on behalf of Alfonso Bialetti – now Italy’s most famous Moka Pot brand – and continues to be used until this day.

We love the sound of a Moka Pot quietly rumbling in the kitchen, anticipating the coffee it serves. To make great coffee in a Moka Pot at home yourself, follow our quick guide. Remember, always use freshly ground coffee.

Three Top Tips for your Moka Pot:

  • Be careful when lifting the lid of your Moka Pot – delicious, hot coffee spurts through the spout as it brews
  • Level your ground coffee in the basket gently with a tap of your hand
  • Clean your Moka Pot thoroughly each time you use it to avoid build-up in the base
